The article describes two cases, in which both patients received a Hip Surface Replacement Arthroplasty. Both patients were female ,early 50s, and experienced no pain post-operation and received few limitations with physical therapy. However, during treatment in physical therapy patients began to experience increasing amounts of radiating pain. It was eventually discovered both patients had femoral neck fractures and will need a Total Hip Arthroplasty. Is this a preventable complication of Hip Surface Arthroplasty and can we minimize the risk?
This article will help me in answering my essential question because it gives the perspective of both physical therapists and orthopedic surgeon. The article provides detailed explanations of specific treatments, patient care, and how to help patients in making medical decisions. The article is helpful to students because it analyzes proper procedures and teaches students how to handle certain situations in patient care.

“Orthopedic Edema Management — Part I.” Physical Therapy Case Studies. N.p., n.d. Web. 29 Jan. 2017.
This case study describes how to treat a patient with orthopedic edema in physical therapy. This complication can alter treatment and time in therapy. The case study includes links to connected articles that explain edema and past treatments and show what has been effective and what hasn’t in the medical field. Specifically with orthopedic surgeries as invasive as total hip replacement, therapists and surgeons must be careful to help prevent any further complications to the patient.
“Mark knew what to expect as a result of his previous left total hip replacement and was not fearful of challenging himself.”. I used this quote as a main focus for a potential quote for my research because it relates directly to my essential question. Patient attitude and a positive environment is very important in recovery, especially after invasive surgeries with long recovery time. This quote provides insight to a patient with high motivation to get through therapy, and that motivation will help with recovery time and experience.
This is a credible source because it gives patient information and perspective from both patient and physical therapist. This source can be used to demonstrate patient care, how to determine course of treatment, and information about specific complications. This case study gives insight to a patient with experience in surgery and therapy. Because the patient knows what to expect, even with a complication, he has a positive attitude and is in a healthy environment, he will be more successful.
I can use this source to answer my essential question because it shows patient and therapist perspective. It also shows the importance of patient positivity and how to determine proper treatment with complications.
